There is a saying you may have heard - that everyone believes in something & really it’s true.Even if you don’t believe in a “god”, you must believe in some way to live your life, whether that be by your own self knowledge or by what someone at some point has taught you (mom/dad/grandparent,etc.).When you base decisions on your own knowledge and ideas you are actually worshipping yourself as a god (following your own standards).*In the Biblical context, God is creator of all things, and He is therefore sovereign over all things. The Creator is, as a logical fact, sovereign because the creator, and only the creator, is logically capable of defining the reason for existence of the created thing. God, my Creator, defines my reason for existence! In pagan (all non-Biblical) religion, the word 'god' will usually refer to those who are the highest, strongest, most powerful personal beings in the cosmos, those in control. Control is different from moral authority. Control is based on coercive force; authority is based on defining the purpose for existence. For other pagan religions, 'god' might refer to a divine essence or state of being, such as cosmic consciousness, which is totally impersonal. In such a cosmos, neither control nor morality has any ultimate meaning.1 John 4:1-4 says“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.”this shows us that we must be careful. There is only one truth that leads to God and that is Jesus Christ.By placing your faith in Jesus (His death, burial, and resurrection) you, through the power of Christ in you, overcomes the deception in the world (not by any thing you’ve done, but what Christ already did!)When we accept Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes and reveals the truth to us – “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:26-27.So how do we know that what we believe is truth? The Bible tells us in John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father (God), but by me.”This scripture clearly tells us that we must come to God through Jesus.Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins when He went to the Cross and died and rose again on the third day.If it were not for His death on the cross and the blood He shed for our sins God could not look at us and see Jesus, He would only see our sins for God is a just and righteous God, who cannot accept sin, even though He loves us – but God made a way because of that love and sent Christ to earth to die for us.When we receive and believe in Jesus, God can then look at us and see the blood of Jesus covering our sins.“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”When a person has faith in what Jesus did for them on the cross, he accepts the gift of salvation that God has, by His grace, given to them.If you are looking for the truth and have not yet accepted this gift of salvation, I pray that God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, will convict you and open your eyes.God loves you so much, if you had been the only one living on this earth He would have still sent Jesus for you, for God will go to the uttermost to save!*taken from http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/12The/GodDefin.htm
